7 Favorite Japandi Furniture + Décor Pieces for Modern Cabin Design

We… Love… Japandi… For those of you new to the style, welcome, you have arrived at balance, nature, and simplicity. Japandi might have a new name but we’ve had it for a long time, Scandanavian textile craftsman in the 60s were inspired by Japanese and Asian art and design and started a huge movement.

So what’s new about it then? Well a couple things. The forms are definitely more large scale and opaque with a lot of volume to it. It’s almost the opposite of MCM with small angled spindle legs on an ottoman. A Japandi ottoman would be a textural upholstered boucle in not just a cylinder, but a sort of “fluffy” shape like a cloud.

A couple years ago we started to see graphic design take to a a very oversized, flat, and yet dreamy style, and now the interiors are following suit. There’s definitely a lot more play with scale and volume in both this Japan Foundation’s illustration (on Behance), and Ksenia Bortsova’s design (rendered by Jansnvisuals on Behance).

So here are Palm + Pine’s favorite new Japandi approved pieces that we think would look amazing in any cabin. A lot of the pinterest boards are showing white and cream, but cabin’s (and especially STR / AirBNB’s) are much easier to manage long term with darker colors, so we decided to give a bit of a slant, think Japandi meets “dark and moody” palette.
